Agia Galini

Agia Galini is a small village at the gulf of Messara in the south of Crete. Maybe 1.000 people living here in the vollage, some more around it. Our plot has a distance of roundabout 2 km to the centre of Agia Galini, with sepentines maybe 5 minutes by car.

Much more important: no mass tourism, only small hotels and holiday homes, many small beaches, and nice highlights like the beautiful small harbour of Agia Galini, many taverns, other nice villages at the southern coast of Crete. The infrastructure of Agia Galii includes supermarket, bakery, dealers with meat or fish, fruits and vegetables and a pharmacy – everything directly placed in Agia Galini. It is obviously perfect at least in the main season starting on Eastern and ending at the end of Octobre.

If you like you may make nice tripe with boats starting in the harbor to reach bathing beaches like the palm beach of Prevelli or offshore islands.

Komos (Kommos) Beach

Lovely sandy beach half an hour from Agia Galini by car. Maybe 2 km long and 40m wide. Some areas for nudes and allover tan. In spring and early summer turtles birthings can be watched in a protected area. And an archaeological excavation is placed there too.

Glassblowing in Agia Galini

Must see it: old man collects used glass bottles and recycles them into wonderful unique things like carafes, glasses for wine or raki. You find him at the old fuel station (not the modern Shell station).

Fishing trip

Fisherman Giorgios delivers fresh fish every day to the “Faros” tavern managed by his daughter Katarina. We recommend the fish tavern very much, you find it at the harbour in the helft column on the left side after maybe 100m. And we enjoyed a trip in the very early morning:

Agia Galini in March

Find some impressions from 2016 and 2017. Nice smells and colours in spring, but without heat.

Agios Pavlos

…can be found in the west of Agia Galini and has a beautiful bay with a cave the to the small hotel. 2 sandy beaches next to it. You can go the by boat – using a car you will need 25 minutes, we think.

Matala

This well-known important center of flower people can be reached by car in maybe 35 minutes. End of the 60s flower people lived in the caves directly positioned at the beach. The caves can be visited during the season – do it! Even music, tobacco 😉 smells cause feelings of happiness (we have been told…).
